Coil Out On Natural Hair

Friday, January 18, 2013

Check out these beautiful, amazing coils! Here is a style I did about a week ago and that I shared on my Instagram page. I promised to show a tutorial to my blog readers on Facebook so here it is!

First, I washed and conditioned my hair as usual, in six sections. This style works best on wet, freshly washed hair.

Using Cantu Shea Butter Hair Lotion, I twisted the first half of one section of hair, then twirled the bottom half around my finger until it formed a coil. The coil should stay put if done on very wet, freshly washed hair. I repeated this until I was done with my whole head! For the sections of hair that wouldn't stay in a coil (maybe due to the thickness or coarseness), I simply made a bantu knot at the end by bending the section to make a "loop," then wrapping the ends of the hair around the loop to secure it. I also used a bit of aloe vera gel on the coils for hold.

I let my hair dry overnight. I simply covered my hair with a scarf so that the coils would not unravel at night. In the morning, I separated the coils and undid the twists!

I continued to separate each curl until it was sufficiently fluffed out!
