Little Natural: Goldilocks

Meet Goldilocks, a little natural from the blog Goldilocks N Me!

"Goldilocks" is my middle child, she's 6 and has 2 brothers, ages 10 and 4.  I nick-named her "Goldilocks" for the blog because all throughout her toddler years she had these big loopy blonde ringlets, ahh the good old days of baby-hood :)

Flat Lace Twist With a Two-Strand Twist Side Ponytail

Saturday, April 28, 2012 12 comments

This style is inspired by Dominique-Alexis of Natural Hair Care Info. In one of her YouTube videos, she did this awesome style with a lace braid. Check out her video here. I really loved how it looked and decided to try it out, but instead, with a lace twist!

PC: What is your name, age, and how long have you been natural?
S:
I am Sa Rah Shine. I am 21. I've been natural for almost my whole life. My mum loves my hair. She helped me to accept it because I am the only one in my family with my type of hair. The last person who had the same texture was my father's grand-ma.

Criss-Cross Headband Style With a Twist-Out

Monday, April 23, 2012 8 comments

Some of you really wanted to see how my most recent style would look if I rocked a fro with the rest of my hair instead of a sock bun. However, because my hair is stretched, I knew wetting my banded hair for the fro just wouldn't look right because it wouldn't revert back to my natural curl pattern all the way (it never does! It takes a whole washing for my curls to be fully back after banding them!). I decided that I would try the next best thing, which was to do a twist-out! I actually also wanted to do a twist-out to see how the ends of my hair would look now that they've been trimmed!

How To Trim Your Own Natural Hair

Many people use many different methods to trim their natural hair. I find that certain methods work a little better than others IF you want to trim only the damaged hair and nothing more. Here's what I mean.

Signs That You Need To Trim The Ends of Your Natural Hair

Monday, April 9, 2012 21 comments

Your hair goes through a whole lot. You wash it, you detangle it, you style it. Your hair is also exposed to the elements, whether it's the freezing cold or the scorching heat. Even with hair protection methods such as protective styling, which keeps the ends of the hair tucked away and off your shoulders, your ends still have to go through washing and detangling. Your ends are the oldest part of your hair. They've been through the most combing, brushing, and manipulation. Eventually, they will wear down, and that's when it's time to trim them off. How do you know what your ends might look or feel like when it's time to trim? Here are some signs that your ends need to be trimmed off.

This is a slightly different look from my first side sock bun and pompadour style. I didn't change much at all except for how the pompadour looks.

How to Do a Sock Bun on Natural Hair

Saturday, April 7, 2012 10 comments

For my most recent style, I promised you all that I would make a tutorial on how to achieve a sock bun. It's a bun with a "dimple" or hole in the center. It might look difficult to achieve, but it's super simple! All you'll need are an old sock and some bobby pins.
