Here is a style that I did on my 12-year-old sister!

Detangling My Younger Sister's Hair

Friday, January 27, 2012 13 comments

After much coaxing, my 12-year-old sister has let me take care of and style her hair for the very first time! Her hair was previously in extension braids, so she took them out and I was left with hair that was pretty well stretched due to the braids.

How To Smooth a Twist-Out For A Puff Or Updo

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 6 comments

If you want to create a sleek updo using a twist-out pattern (especially if that updo is a puff), it may be necessary to smooth out part of the twist-out so that it is smooth against your head and not bumpy due to the curl pattern. You need to smooth without sacrificing the curl definition of the part that will be in the updo. Here's how to do this!

Meet Li'l Bit, a little natural from the blog Different Kinds of Curls!

We call my little natural Li’l Bit, though she is becoming not so little anymore so I  may have to change her nickname soon. Li’l Bit just turned 4 years old, and is the youngest of 4 children. She loves gymnastics (we have been told that she is a natural), making mud pies, and dressing up like a Princess.

Transitioning Curls Feature

Tuesday, January 10, 2012
Hey everyone! So I've recently written up another feature - a feature for those who are transitioning, or who already have transitioned and would like to share their transitioning story.

It started when a friend of mine, who is wearing braided extensions, saw my natural hair and said to me, "I wish I could be natural." I asked her, "Why can't you be?" She said that she tried to grow out her relaxer, but she found it difficult to deal with both textures, gave up, and relaxed the new growth again. Her story prompted me to create a feature for those who have transitioned from relaxed to natural successfully. This in turn can help others who are struggling in their transition, just like my friend.

Stretching My Freshly Washed Hair With Medium-Sized Twists

Wednesday, January 4, 2012 18 comments

My hair shrinks up the most right after I wash it. It's super important to keep kinky, curly hair as stretched as possible to avoid tangles that can result from the hair shrinking and coiling up on itself. I never style my hair right after washing, because for me, styles come out best, look neater, and last longer on stretched hair. I decided to stretch out my freshly washed hair with medium sized twists.
