Hair Share: Flat Twist & Bantu Knot-Out Faux Hawk

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Chinyere shares her awesome faux hawk style! A great hairstyle that can work for naturals with shorter hair!

Techniques Involved:

- Flat Twisting
- Two-Strand Twisting

Products/Tools Used:

- Olive Oil
- Bobby Pins
- Comb
- Hair Scrunchie

Steps:
1) Wash and condition your hair depending on your own routine.

2) Put your hair into large braids until damp or dry.

3) Get a comb and part your hair from ear to ear. You should end up with a top and bottom half.

4) Take the bottom half and tie off with a hair scrunchie.

5) Go to the top half and get your comb to divide the section into 3 equal parts (making sure the parts are very straight.)

6) In each section spritz hair with water (if it became totally dry after washing), then apply your favorite moisturizer and sealant, braiding each section after moisturizing and sealing.

7) Start with the "middle" section of the three top sections of hair. Detangle some more if necessary. Then, make small two strand twists for the whole section until you are done! Make bantu knots with the twists by wrapping the twist around itself and tucking the end underneath. Secure with a bobby pin if needed.

8) Take either the left or right top section and flat twist. Before you begin to flat twist, evenly part the section into 5 or 6 straight lines for the flat twists and add some gel to the front of the twist to give it some sleekness. Make sure to do the flat twist tight but not too tight! Then secure the ends by making a bantu knot.

9) Repeat step 8 on the other side of the top section.

10) Untie the hair scrunchie from your back section and spritz with water and moisturize/seal.

11) Get a medium-to-small section of hair and make a two strand twist. When you are done, make a bantu knot with the twist and secure with a bobby pin if needed.

12) Repeat step 11 until the whole back section is complete. Add some more gel if necessary to the edges and get a scarf to tie down your hair.

13) The next morning, gently release the bantu knots and fluff them out. Rub some olive oil on your hands before taking them out to prevent the knots/twists from becoming frizzy.

14) Unravel the bantu knots at the ends of the flat twists and bobby pin them back to blend with the back hair. Style however you like!
