PC: What is your name, age, and how long have you been natural?
K: Hi, my name is Kimba of FleurDeCurl.com and I am 29. I’ve been natural for a little over two years now.

PC: Why did you decide to go natural?
K: I was previously natural during my senior year of college 9 years ago. My family and friends thought that my hair was unprofessional for a college graduate and constantly reprimanded me to relax my hair. I finally did so to conform to pressures that were given to me at the time. Almost two and a half years ago, I fell in love with natural beauty all over again. I started watching YouTube and reading Natural Hair Blogs and websites. I decided that my hair was supposed to be natural. I transitioned for a few months and then BCed. Since then, I’ve had more confidence than I’ve ever had in my whole life.

PC: How do you feel about your hair?
K: I love it.  I exude confidence when I am rocking a huge fro or funky twist out.  I love alternating protective styles and having the constant options to be different at the drop of a dime.  I've noticed, during my natural journey, that I can make so many styles with textured hair that I couldn't with straight hair.

PC: What products do you use?
Styler: Macadamia Natural Oil’s Oil Healing Oil Spray

PC: What is your hair care routine?
K: Normally, my routine is pretty simple.  I wash, condition, and deep condition my hair on the weekends—mostly Saturdays.  If I am going out that night, I may wear it in a twist out or blow out—depending on the occasion.  I then twist it that night and wear it in a twist out on Sunday.  On Sunday evening, I pick a protective style for the week, style it and sleep with a satin bonnet on to keep the style.   Every few days, I finger detangle the protective style to eliminate shed hair and tangles.  Also, during this time, I often add a moisturizer to my hair and sealant to the ends.  Every night, I make sure to  tie my hair with a satin scarf. If there is any type of occasion during the week, I may wear it out—but when I am working all week, I tend to keep my hair in protective styles until the weekend.

PC: What are your favorite hairstyles?
K: I love wearing my hair in an Afro.  I very seldom do so, but it has been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember.  It compliments my face and when I wear it, I tend to get tons of complements from people.

PC: What has been the hardest part of your natural hair journey?
K: The hardest part for me was sticking to a routine and trying to find products that do not weigh my thin hair down.  Some creams were too heavy for my hair and my twist outs would be flat and greasy looking.  Just through trial and error—sometimes frustration—I was able to find products that stretch, moisturize and seal my hair.

PC: What was your proudest natural moment?
K: My proudest natural moment was being a hair model at the International Beauty Show in New York City a couple of weeks ago.  My hair was on stage and everyone loved it.  LOL.

PC: What tips/suggestions do you have for other naturals?
K: Don’t get easily frustrated when things do not go the way you want them to or at the speed that you want it to during your natural hair journey.  Our hair grows at different rates and our textures are different.  Just because you see one natural looking a certain way, doesn’t mean that your hair will look the same way in that style.  In retrospect, I am just advising to be proud of your own hair through its good days and bad days.  Treat it with respect and love and nourish it.  You will have your own accomplishments and hopefully that will motivate other naturals to follow in your positive journey to healthy natural hair. If you want to know more about me or follow my blog, you can do so at www.fleurdecurl.com.
