I'm taking part in the April Copy Cat Hair Carnival! Several bloggers were randomly assigned to do a "copy cat" hairstyle from another blog. I was assigned to the awesome blog Untrained Hair Mom! I decided to copy this hairstyle done on her adorable daughter, D!
All you'll need for this style are some rubber bands and a wide stretchy headband. I got my rubber bands from Sally's and my headband from the Goody line.
I did this style on stretched hair by using the banding method (check out my post on how to band hair here.) I made an ear-to-ear part and pulled back the rest of the hair temporarily.
I parted the front section of my hair into six squares, and used rubber bands to tie off the sections. It is best to pre-soak the rubber bands in an oil (olive oil, coconut oil, whatever you like to use) to prevent them from drying out your hair and causing breakage.
Place the headband directly behind the squares. After this, take out the temporary ponytail you made as you will need to use the rest of your hair soon.
Take the very first section and split the second section in half. You will first work with the first section and the half of the second section that is closest to the first section.
Take that "half" of the second section and twist it around a bit. I used a bit of aloe vera gel for smoothness. Then, pull it diagonally across the headband. Take some hair directly behind the headband (as shown by the red arrow) and use a rubber band to secure the section.
Do the same thing with the first section, pulling it diagonally in the other direction so that it is crossed over the first section.
Pick up the next two "halves" of each section. Continue criss-crossing them until you're all done! Remember that the very last section does not get split in half.
Then, I used some gel to smooth back the rest of my hair into a low ponytail.
You can actually do whatever you want to with the back of the hair. I decided to make a sock bun. Check out my tutorial on how to make a sock bun here. After that, you're all done!
The styles side by side:
I'm just loving how this style came out! I think it's a great hairstyle suitable for children, teens and adults, as you can see here. It looks great on lil' D, and it looks great on me as well! I very much enjoyed copying this style.
Do check out the other blogs below in the linky to see other copycat hairstyles, as well as the blogger who copied a hairstyle of mine!
