I am a wife, mother, and a nerd, since I have degrees in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and International Relations. Somewhere in the time between these, I have become an artist. My passion is creating watercolor and ink nursery art, and I have recently finished illustrating 2 children's books. This year's big life change is that we are adopting a little daughter from Ethiopia. My 2 boys are so excited to have a sister soon! A lot of my art is centered around adoption, Africa, and art for children of a diverse ethnic background. I have also started my own ACEO 'Everyday-Art' Project, with the goal to paint or draw at least one ACEO every day this year. All the proceeds from my art sale go towards our adoption fund!
I came across Katie's gorgeous artwork after seeing it featured on a few other blogs. She has kindly allowed me to feature some of her art on my blog! I was especially fascinated by her art that celebrates the naturality of young, African children.
The paintings in Katie's "Hair Time" collection were one of the first I saw. It depicts hair time as a bonding time between caregiver and child. These pictures speak volumes. Hair time for me back when I was little was not a happy, bonding time at all. It was not a time that neither I nor my mom enjoyed. Neither of us knew about gentle natural hair care back then, which caused lots of pain for me, and lots of grief for my mom. I also never thought about hair time being a special time where both caregiver and child can spend quality time together. I wish more parents would consider hair time as a lovely time spent with their daughter or son, not a task. Also, knowing how to gently care for natural hair will also help hair time to be happy and painless.
"Brown-Eyed Girl." I absolutely love her locs!
"Africa Hope." What a beautiful, hopeful face.
"Shy - Ethiopian Orphan." Love her big brown eyes!
"His Curls." He's so cute and I love his little boy curls!
"Abby In Her Tutu." This was a custom listing for someone, but I love Abby's little 'fro!
"Meeting My Momma." I love this as very soon, Katie will be meeting her little Ethiopian daughter!
I love Katie's art and I hope you do too! All proceeds from her sales go to her adoption fund! Visit her Etsy shop here to see more of her amazing art. Also be sure to "like" her Facebook page here and visit her art blog and her adoption blog. I have supported Katie's cause. Stay tuned tomorrow to find out how! Big thank you to Katie for allowing me to feature your work on my blog!

I love the Hair Time pieces, it reminds me of when I do my daughter's hair--from a pretty little fro to pretty little braids. I've wandered through her work and some of them bring tears to my eyes, they are so beautiful!
I absolutely love these paintings. They are fantastic role models for kids to have on their walls and I love how each painting tells a different story and can stir up different emotions inside. They say a picture can say 1000 words so with these you know you will be getting a work of art (",) Great post Precious. I remeber when I was small and my mum did my hair sometimes it used to hurt and I would get my dad to do it if he was home because he waa gentler. Sometimes it didnt hurt I think it only hurt when my mum would rush, I always said I would never hurt my child when doing there hair and gg loves getting her hair done I tbink its all just down to patience.
Those paintings were beautiful! I now follow her on all social media networks! Thanks for sharing...
These paintings are VERY beautiful and inspiring. I especially love "Shy-Ethiopian Orphan" and "Africa Hope". I am eyeing these for Christmas presents, perhaps. I said I was going to purchase at least half of my girls' Christmas presents this year from homemade shops/small businesses, so thank you, Precious, for featuring this artist and giving me more ideas. :)
