After shampooing, sometimes I notice that my scalp is not as clean as it should be. Sometimes, after I'm finished shampooing and conditioning, I would part the front of my hair and I would still see little bits of dirt and product. Ick! Then I would have to shampoo and condition all over again. Sigh.
Well one day, I was reading through some threads on NaturallyCurly.com, and there was one particular thread about someone who felt that their hair wasn't getting clean enough. A replier suggesting that before she shampooed, she should wet her hair with warm water and massage her scalp all over, to loosen the dirt, scalp oil, and product. She said that the scalp massage loosened the dirt away from the scalp, which made it easier for the shampoo to then rid the hair of it. She also said that it was a money saver, since it wouldn't be necessary to use more shampoo to wash a second time.

I thought it was a great suggestion and I actually used it today. I let the water run on my hair in the shower while I massaged the dirt away from my scalp. Then I shampooed normally, rinsed it out, and conditioned. When I parted my hair today, my scalp was cleaner than ever! Massaging the scalp before shampooing to loosen up the dirt is definitely a very useful and helpful tip!
